Architectural Significance
Built c. late 1880s, this house attests to the longevity of the Italianate frame vernacular style in Bridgewater. Other late examples of this style in the town are to be found on Mt. Prospect St. and Maple Ave. In suburban communities closer to Boston the stick, shingle and Queen Anne style had superceded the Italianate style by the late 1880s.
Historical Significance
This house is an irregular plan, 2 1/2 story house with an appealing intact encircling veranda which exhibits turned posts and balusters as well as saw cut brackets. Tall 2/2 wood sash windows open on to the veranda. Projecting from the north wall is a polygonal bay. This house in enclosed by a multi gable roof with return eaves. This house was built between 1887 and 1890 by George C. Beale, a Bridgewater carpenter. Beale lived here until at least the early 1900s.
