Architectural Significance

This is one of Bridgewater's very few 18th c. gambrel cottages. It possesses a center entrance (originally 5 bay main façade), distinctive gambrel profile endwalls, three pedimented dormers, two narrow chimneys at roof's center (originally one large chimney at center?). The house is presently covered with wood shingles.

Historical Significance

Built c. 1750, this house was apparently moved to this site at some point in the early-mid 19th century. 19th c. maps and atlases indicate a house belonging to a branch of Bridgewater's Bassett family on this site. Crescent St. is a very old road, dating to as early as c. 1717. Deed work may determine the original owner and date of construction.
